WHO ?

With 7 critically acclaimed CDs and 3 Grammy nominations (2009, 2019, 2021) Kate McGarry has become recognized as a jazz artist who brings authenticity and vitality to every song regardless of genre. The Wall St. Journal calls her music, "Austere and elegant," New York Times pronounced her singing, “astute and sensitive".  She currently performs in jazz clubs, performing arts centers and festivals throughout the US and abroad. As an educator she has taught at Manhattan School of Music and California Jazz Conservatory. Downbeat's 2016 Critics Poll named McGarry the #1 Rising Star Female Vocalist.  She has been interviewed on All Things Considered, and has performed on Jazz Set w/DeeDee Bridgwater, Piano Jazz w/Marion McPartland, and a host of nationally syndicated radio shows.

WHAT ?

MARCH is packed full of excitement. It is Women in Music month, but not only that it is also Women's History Month. 

Join us for an exciting program as we explore a woman who has been involved in music and an incredible music education journey throughout her career.

Kate McGarry will conduct a masterclass, performance, and a history of singing focused on various styles. This masterclass is open to 15 participants on a first-come, first-serve basis. Participants will have an opportunity to learn and be introduced to a vocal technique called Somatic Voicework. Masterclass registration will open on March 1st. General admission is open NOW !

Masterclass is $20; General Audience Admission is $10 online and $12 at the door. Checks are NOT accepted.

CDC Health: We are currently in flu season and follow CDC guidelines re COVID.  If you are feeling sick in anyway do not attend.

Accessibility. We will accommodate first row seating to address any challenges.

VOCAL TECHNIQUES

Register development (Chest, Head and Mixed Registration)

Releasing constriction in the throat and swallowing muscles

Development of breath control

Increasing range, strength, flexibility, ease

Vocal Health and maintenance for older voices

Due to the nature of this event only mature audiences are recommended from ages 15 years of age and up!

WHEN ?

On Friday, March 31, 2023, Valley Arts and Entertainment will present a live Women's History Month event and live performance for singers of various genres to include jazz, r&b, stage and theater, blues, gospel. Singing for mature voices tips !

WHERE?

Event will be at Lowe Mill Entertainment Center, Theater Huntsville, Studio 265.

Restrictions

No food or drink is allowed. Water bottle is allowed.
